Tanmay was born in Mumbai, India. He received his M. Tech degree in Microelectronics from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, in 2018, where he was the recipient of the Outstanding M. Tech Thesis Award. For his master's thesis, Tanmay proposed and demonstrated the use of SOI technology for ultra-energy-efficient neuromorphic architectures. Earlier, he received his B.Tech degree in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering from Vivekanand Education Society's Institute of Technology, Mumbai, in 2016. During 2018-2019 he worked at IIT Bombay as a Junior Research Fellow, where his research was focused on novel semiconductor physics for neuromorphic hardware applications. In Fall 2019, he joined Prof. Banerjee's Nanoelectronics group at the University of California, Santa Barbara, to pursue his Ph.D. degree in the field of novel devices based on 2D materials.
